Ciara Heatherman

ABOUT

Ciara Heatherman graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Art Education from Ithaca College in 2010. She has taught middle and high school visual art for 7 years in Upstate NY. Ciara decided that she wanted to take a break from teaching to start a family, and focus on developing her own artwork. She is now a full time painter while also parenting her toddler, and travels with her husband. They have spent the majority of 2020 in the Hill Country of Texas, but are settled back home in North Eastern Pennsylvania. Ciara currently works from her lakefront home art studio, focused on a new body of work inspired by wildlife and nature in her own backyard.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Painting excites me because I love the challenge of working through my frustrations until something of beauty is created that wasn’t there before. I enjoy experimenting with composition, color, subject matter, and technique within my work. When I am painting or drawing I am hyper focused on the task at hand, and this gives my mind a break from the anxiety of everyday life as a parent to a toddler during this pandemic. I am inspired by my environment in nature, and in the manmade world. I am greatly influenced by the Fauvist and Expressionist Art movements' strong use of color and energetic mark making.
