Greg A. Chianis

ABOUT

Born in 1961, Greg Chianis has been involved in building projects and designing since he was young. After graduating from Maine-Endwell High School in Endwell, New York, Greg earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Texas in 1986. After years of hard work and dedication, he became a licensed architect in 1993 and co-founded Chianis + Anderson Architects in Binghamton, NY in 2001. Chianis’ artistic interest in photography came about as a result of his painstaking battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma, an ordeal which lasted three years. When he won his battle with the affliction in 2010, it changed gave him a new lease on life and taught him that every second—every frame—matters. He decided to pick up a camera and begin documenting his surroundings. Not only has Greg documented several sites around his home of Newark Valley, NY. He has also traveled to several other parts of the United States and even to Europe. He captures anything from lush or barren landscapes to pristine or abandoned, decaying man-made objects or structures with a unique artistic touch. He primarily uses analog equipment including 35 mm film and a pinhole. He designed his own custom, professional-grade darkroom lab to enable him to continue experimenting with the film photography medium. Some of his photographic works are on display at buildings which he has helped design as an architect. Greg was recently hired by Broome Community College as an Adjunct Instructor to teach a 3-credit course called Digital Photographic Imaging. He has participated in and won several regional photography competitions and has won many awards for his work.
