Artist Bio

Thurber has worked in various mediums but textiles are her current fascination. Altering textiles with dyes, stitching, printing, paint, colored pencil, are a few ways Thurber uses fabric to tell stories. Cloth is ubiquitous to all which, for Thurber, adds to its approachability. Thurber purposefully asks the viewer to engage in the work, to touch, feel the texture, and examine the layers present in the work.

Thurber is originally from Cincinnati but has lived in the Finger Lakes for over 30 years. Her mother and sister are also artists. Her mother exposed her to all sorts of mediums that have inspired and nurtured her need to create. Her sister is her champion. Thurber’s husband and three children have been both a source of inspiration and an amazing support network.
