Concerts in the Park - Dean Goble Band

On Wednesday, August 7, come to the final Concerts in the Park performance for the season and enjoy Dean Goble Band from 7 - 9 p.m. at The Hickories Park.

The Dean Goble Band is a group of musicians who love to create and perform all styles of music. Our roots are in Country, Southern Rock, Bluegrass, and Texas Swing, and you will certainly hear those style songs and influences, but anything that we consider good music is going to end up on stage.

With the versatility of five vocalists, fiddle, various guitars, piano, bass, and drums, you are bound to hear something that tickles your fancy. I guess you would say we like the classics, but what is a classic after all if not something that was created in the past that we still enjoy and admire today. We hope you come out and join us in the fun!

Members: Dean Goble-Vocals/Fiddle/ Guitar, Jim Osborne-Vocals/ Bass, Wade Jacobson-Vocals/Guitar/Keyboard, Jimmy Decker-Vocals/Guitar, Josh Oakes-Vocals/Drums.
PS: In the event of inclement weather, concerts will move to the Owego Elks Lodge at 223 Front Street, Owego.

How to Sing in the Dark: A Poetry Workshop & Reading with Abby E. Murray

Tioga Arts Council (TAC) is proud to present a generative workshop with resident poet, Abby E. Murray, on Saturday, July 13, at Cloud Croft Studios. Join us!

How to Sing in the Dark

Participants in this workshop will be treated to poems born in times of struggle and carry clarity, light, and the doggedness of hope. We’ll explore the poetry of political upheaval and war, as well as familial and personal grief; in doing so, we’ll rediscover the techniques good listeners and writers have used for centuries in order to create poems that help us persevere. Prompts generated by the work at hand will get us writing, and poets will leave with drafts to carry onward through the dark.

Date & Time: Saturday, July 13, (tentatively) from 1 - 4 p.m.

Location: Cloud Croft Studios - Barn, 1003 Sanford Rd., Owego, NY

Registration:

  • TAC Supporter: $10

  • Not-Yet-Supporter: $15

  • Seating limited to 15 participants.

A Love Supreme was Coltrane’s musical declaration of spirituality and faith in a loving God who supported him as he battled drug addiction and other human failures years earlier. The album takes its name from the chant recorded as part of “Acknowledgement.”’ – Smithsonian Music, “A Love Supreme: Honoring John Coltrane During Jazz Appreciation Month 2014.”

Artist Bio - Natalie Montefinese

I have been an antique dealer for over 30 years; and I have always found myself inspired by the stories, both real and imagined, behind the objects that have crossed my path. I've enjoyed delving into the history of items, studying the styles of the periods, which has inspired the artistic directions I've taken. I've created hatpins and decoupage projects inspired by the Victorians, tiles and prints reminiscent of the Arts & Crafts movement, and abstract acrylic paintings dominated by my attraction to Mid Century design. My most recent work comes from my love for books and paper; and I find myself using the 2 dimensional page to create 3 dimensional book sculptures, oftentimes incorporating pieces found in nature from walks around New York and New England.

Artist Bio - Donna Morgan

I work in a range of art mediums including mixed media, encaustic, wearable art sculptures, and artisan book journals. I have lived in upstate New York all of my adult life and find inspiration in all the splendors of the seasons. After a life altering experience I found that the artistic expression is a powerful healing force. The use of unstructured play with color has enabled me to experience personal growth and spiritual awareness. I create my mixed media art by transforming old discarded and vintage materials that I have collected and rework them into new forms to be appreciated and loved once again. I enjoy each step in transforming the plain canvas to a finished one of a kind unique expression of art. I was published in the summer 2016 issue of Summerset Studios Gallery Magazine and created a wearable art piece for the 2017 and 2019 recycled runway event held at the Corning Glass Museum, Corning NY.  In addition, I was formally represented by Quintus Gallery.

Materials

All materials and tools required will be provided.

Price per participant

  • $65 for TAC Supporters (aka Members)

Creative Symposium Series Event # 2: Stepping Stones: Creative Career Building

Tioga Arts Council (TAC) is proud to present the ‘Creative Symposium’, a series of 6 Professional Development and Creative Networking events through out 2024. This series was made possible by a grant from NYSCA. It is free and open to all creatives, artist, writers - at any stage of their creative career. Our second event will be on Saturday April 20, from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Cloud Croft Studios Schoolhouse in Owego.

We are thrilled to have local artist, Anna Warfield, join us to discuss 'Stepping Stones: Creative Career Building'

Often the best place to start is with folks you already know. Hear from peer artist, Anna Warfield, as they get candid on their artistic journey (hint: it’s not all glitter and rainbows). Then, through examples and group exercises you’ll clearly define your own unique vision for your artistic future, and set realistic goals to get you from where you are to where you want to be. We’ll wrap things up with a resource sharing session that will help build out your foundational knowledge and empower you moving forward.

Artist Bio:Anna Warfield is a soft sculptor and poet based in Binghamton, New York. Her predominantly text-based fiber works engage with the body, re-learning, and communicating identity.

Her solo museum exhibition, "Placid Thoughts From Inside Her Eyelids," is currently on view at the Roberson Museum in Binghamton, NY. She is the recipient of a 2023 NYSCA Individual Artist Support Grant, a 2023 Saltonstall Fellowship and Artist Residency, a 2023 Community Foundation for South Central New York Women's Fund grant, an inaugural BCAC Artist Residency, and a HYPE Award in the Arts from the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce in 2019.

Warfield spoke as a panelist in the 2023 "Text and Techne Conference" at Trinity College, Dublin and has contributed as a guest speaker at NYFA, Cornell University, and Binghamton University. Warfield received a B.F.A. and B.S. in Communication both from Cornell University where her 2018 thesis received the Charles Baskerville Painting Award. Reflections on Influence: Rust Dye and Printing on Fabric

Location

Cloud Croft Studios - Schoolhouse, 1003 Sanford Rd., Owego, NY.

Date & Time

Saturday, March 16, from 1 - 5 p.m.

Description

In this four hour workshop, Julie Thurber will demonstrate techniques to alter fabric to create a personal narrative of past and present that reflects on influences from one’s own personal experience. Through altering and printing images on fabric, layering and joining them in a variety of ways, each participant will create an original artwork.

Participants will learn to rust dye fabric as well as a simple technique to print an images onto fabric. All the necessary supplies, including silk organza and cotton fabrics, will be provided. To complete the original work a variety of mediums will also be supplied such as paints, colored pencils, markers, thread and needle, fluid and gel medium, and more. Click HERE to register.

Artist Bio

Thurber has worked in various mediums but textiles are her current fascination. Altering textiles with dyes, stitching, printing, paint, colored pencil, are a few ways Thurber uses fabric to tell stories. Cloth is ubiquitous to all which, for Thurber, adds to its approachability. Thurber purposefully asks the viewer to engage in the work, to touch, feel the texture, and examine the layers present in the work.

Thurber is originally from Cincinnati but has lived in the Finger Lakes for over 30 years. Her mother and sister are also artists. Her mother exposed her to all sorts of mediums that have inspired and nurtured her need to create. Her sister is her champion. Thurber’s husband and three children have been both a source of inspiration and an amazing support network.

Materials Required

Each participant will be asked to provide an image (via cell phone or thumb drive) of a person whose influence made an impact on their life. Plastic Gloves will be provided, consider bringing your own if allergies are a concern.

Price per participant

  • $75 for members

  • $100 for non members

  • Class Size Limit: 12
